ROBERT LEE, TX — A 64-year-old woman was arrested early Saturday after a Coke County sheriff’s sergeant stopped her for driving the wrong way and found more than 9 grams of a white substance that field-tested positive for cocaine, the sheriff’s office reported.
Pati Strain was also charged with driving while intoxicated after she provided a breath sample of 0.10 at the Tom Green County Jail. The legal limit in Texas is 0.08.
Sgt. Eudy was on patrol at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday when he saw a white 2026 Nissan Altima traveling in the oncoming lane of 10th Street, according to an information release from the Coke County Sheriff’s Office. He initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle stopped just north of 10th Street and Childress Street.
Eudy detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle after making contact with Strain. He asked her to exit the car and perform standardized field sobriety tests. Strain displayed signs consistent with intoxication and was arrested, the release said.
Deputy Neal responded to assist. A search incident to arrest and an inventory of the vehicle turned up more than 9 grams of the white substance, resulting in an additional felony charge.
Strain was booked into the Tom Green County Jail at about 3:50 a.m. Saturday. Jail records list her charges as possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1/1-B, 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams, a second-degree felony, and driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor. Bond was set at $27,500. Records show she was released at 3:17 p.m. the same day.
The case was forwarded to the 51st Judicial District Attorney’s Office for review and prosecution. Strain is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
