SAN ANGELO, TX — A Tom Green County jury on Thursday found Alejandro Lopez Gomez guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a child younger than 14 and indecency with a child by exposure.
They sentenced him to 35 years in prison on the first-degree felony and 10 years plus a $10,000 fine on the third-degree felony, court records show. The continuous-abuse count listed a victim younger than 14.
The verdict and sentence came on the fourth day of trial in the 391st District Court before Judge Brad Goodwin. Gomez, who pleaded not guilty, was remanded to the Tom Green County sheriff for transport to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
A grand jury returned the indictment Feb. 10, 2026.
Jury selection began Sept. 21. Opening statements were on Sept. 22. Testimony over the following days included San Angelo police officers, a CASA volunteer, and other witnesses.
On Sept. 24, the jury heard closing arguments, deliberated about 2 hours and 20 minutes, and returned guilty verdicts that afternoon. After additional evidence and arguments on punishment, the jury deliberated about 1 hour and 25 minutes before returning the sentences that evening.
After a victim-impact statement, the court imposed the sentences and adjourned.
