SAN ANGELO, TX — A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper fatally shot a San Angelo man during a traffic stop Sunday afternoon, according to DPS.
It happened on September 20 at about 1:15 p.m., when a DPS trooper initiated a traffic stop on a Chevrolet passenger car near the intersection of Coleman Street and North Harrison Street for a turn signal violation.

During the stop, an altercation occurred between the trooper and the driver, identified as Kenneth Earl Cansler, 29, of San Angelo. A weapon was introduced, and the trooper fired his weapon, shooting and killing Cansler, DPS stated.
The Texas Rangers are investigating the officer-involved shooting. Officials said no additional information is available at this time.
