Copper Wire Thefts Target Irrigation Pivots in Tom Green County

SAN ANGELO, TX - The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office is investigating a series of copper electrical wire thefts targeting agricultural irrigation pivot systems throughout Tom Green County.

The reported thefts occurred between May and June 2026 at the following locations:

  • Glass Road and U.S. Highway 87 North - June 26, 2026
  • 50th Street and Armstrong Road - June 27, 2026
  • FM 765 and FM 2334 - May 18, 2026

Investigators believe the thefts most likely occurred during nighttime hours; however, the exact times are unknown. At this time, there is no suspect or vehicle information available.

The Sheriff's Office is urging all farmers and landowners to inspect their irrigation pivot systems for damage, particularly to the main electrical cable located on top of the pivot. Damage or theft of these components can result in costly repairs and disrupt irrigation operations during the growing season.

Anyone who discovers damage to an irrigation pivot or observes suspicious or unusual activity in agricultural fields, especially during nighttime hours, is encouraged to contact the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office immediately.

If you determine that your irrigation pivot has been damaged or that copper wire has been stolen, please report the incident by calling the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office at (325) 655-8111 to file a report.

Anyone with information regarding these thefts or possible suspects is asked to contact the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office at (325) 655-8111 and request to speak with Sergeant Investigator Frank Hernandez.

"The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office appreciates the public's assistance and encourages the agricultural community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly," the sheriff's office stated.
