San Angelo Man Faces Felony Charges After Alpine Hotel Assault

ALPINE, TX — A 43-year-old San Angelo man was arrested Monday evening at an Alpine hotel after authorities say he barricaded himself in a room, threatened a victim with a firearm and committed an assault.

Jerad H. Shipman faces three felony charges: aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and assault of a family member by impeding breath or circulation, according to a press release from Alpine police.

Officers responded to the Holiday Inn Express at 2004 E. Highway 90 about 7:20 p.m. May 18 on a report of an incident. Authorities said the suspect produced a firearm and threatened the victim inside a room.

The victim was able to leave the room and alert law enforcement. Shipman remained inside for a time before coming out willingly and surrendering without incident, the release said.

He was taken into custody by Alpine police with assistance from the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Department of Homeland Security. Shipman was transported to the Brewster County Jail.
