UPDATE: San Angelo Teen Dies After Hit-And-Run Crash Last Week

SAN ANGELO, TX — A 16-year-old San Angelo boy has died from his injuries sustained in a hit-and-run crash last week, according to the San Angelo Police Department.

The boy was walking home from work at McDonald’s on Green Meadow Drive when he was hit by Aaron Metcalf, 24, at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 6.

Metcalf left the boy in the roadway without rendering aid or calling 911. The boy was later found by his mother who had come to pick him up.

Metcalf said he “became distracted and put his head down,” according to court documents.

Metcalf later told a police officer he didn’t know what he hit and thought it was a pole. Video footage showed Metcalf’s vehicle accelerating after the collision.

A doctor at Shannon Medical Center determined that the boy suffered from "internal decapitation," which is defined as a severe injury where the skull separates from the spine internally.

Metcalf was arrested and charged with accident involving serious bodily injury, though that charge is expected to now be upgraded. He was initially booked into Tom Green County Jail on a $200,000 bond.

This is the third time Metcalf has been arrested in the last seven months. He was booked in February for no proof of financial responsibility for a second time, and he had two charges for possession of a controlled substance during an October 2025 arrest.
