San Angelo Police Investigating Fatal Shooting Near Northside Recreation Center

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – San Angelo police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon near the Northside Recreation Center.

According to a press briefing from the San Angelo Police Department, officers were dispatched around 5:24 p.m. on a “shots fired” call. Upon arrival, they located a 19-year-old male who was deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.

Chief Travis Griffith provided the following update at the scene:

“We do have some leads that we’re following right now, and we have some of the best detectives from the San Angelo Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division on scene. Our crime scene unit, special operations, and gang unit are all working through these leads. We hope that by tomorrow we’ll be able to provide more information…”

Chief Griffith stated there is no indication of any ongoing threat to the community at this time.

Police have spoken to several individuals but have not confirmed any arrests or named suspects. 

More details are expected to be released on Friday, either via press conference or written release.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 325-658-4357 (or 658-HELP). 

Tips can be submitted anonymously and may qualify for a reward. 

This remains an active investigation.
