SAN ANGELO, TX — A registered sex offender in San Angelo has been arrested for possessing more than 50 files of child pornography.
Samuel Castruita, 31, was arrested by the Department of Public Safety.
According to court documents, on April 14, 2026, a special agent with the DPS Criminal Investigations Division was conducting an investigation involving the downloading, sharing and possessing of lewd images of children utilizing a peer-to-peer files sharing program.
The same day, the DPS and Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a residence in Tom Green County. During the search, Castruita was identified as an individual living at the home.
According to both the court documents and the Texas Public Sex Offender website, Castruita is on the sex offender list for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old child and was incarcerated for the offense. He has a disposition date of Dec. 4, 2013.
During a non-custodial interview with Castruita, he allegedly admitted to using the file sharing program and to observing inappropriate images of children but claimed to have immediately deleted the images. A written consent search of Castruita’s cell phone was conducted and a file containing more than 50 videos of child pornography were located along with the file sharing software to download the lewd images.
Some of the videos contained graphic sexual assaults of children who appeared to be as young as 5 years old.
Castruita was arrested on April 14, 2026, and booked into the Tom Green County Jail. He is being held on $100,000 bond.
