Odessa Police Seek Driver in Hit-and-Run Motorcycle Crash

 

ODESSA, TX — Police are searching for a 53-year-old man accused of fleeing the scene after his car struck a motorcycle, seriously injuring the rider, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 8:49 p.m. March 14 at the intersection of Andrews Highway and University Boulevard, according to the Odessa Police Department.

A blue Honda Civic, driven southbound on Andrews Highway, failed to yield the right of way while turning left onto University Boulevard and was hit by a northbound black Harley-Davidson motorcycle, police said. 

The motorcyclist, 65-year-old Fred Giles, was taken to Medical Center Hospital with serious injuries.The Civic's driver, identified as Javier Diaz, left the scene without rendering aid, investigators said. 

A photo of Diaz released by police dates to 2023. Anyone with information is asked to contact Odessa police at 432-333-3641 or Odessa Crime Stoppers at the same number, referencing case No. 26-0002710.

The investigation is ongoing.
