MIDLAND, TX — Midland police are investigating a case of deadly conduct after a large group of juveniles fought in the parking lot of Midland Park Mall near Dick's Sporting Goods on Friday, with shots fired and evidence of possible injury found at the scene.
Officers responded around 1 p.m. to reports of a disturbance with weapons involving 50-60 high school-aged juveniles fighting in the parking lot. Callers reported hearing what they believed were gunshots associated with the fight.
Upon arrival, officers found the group had dispersed. A search of the scene revealed a single shell casing and a few drops of blood in the far end of the parking lot near Dick's.
Witnesses confirmed the participants appeared to be high school-aged and said some fled into the mall after the fight. Officers checked the mall interior during a mall-initiated lockdown but did not locate any involved parties.
No one involved has contacted police as of the latest update. Authorities say there is no obvious ongoing threat to the public, the lockdown has been lifted, and mall operations have returned to normal.
The investigation into deadly conduct remains ongoing.
