Update: Fatal Shooting in San Angelo — Teens Were Recklessly Handling Gun, Police Say

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — An 18-year-old man died after being shot when two teens recklessly handled a handgun inside a Windmill Apartments unit, San Angelo police said Saturday. 

Preliminary investigation shows that 19-year-old Norberto Gonzales and 18-year-old Jordan DeLaCruz were handling the firearm when it discharged, striking DeLaCruz, according to a news release from the San Angelo Police Department.

Officers responded about 8:45 p.m. Friday to the 1900 block of Raney Street for a shooting victim. They took Gonzales into custody without incident and found DeLaCruz inside an apartment. He was transported to Shannon Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. 

Gonzales was arrested and charged with manslaughter and is being held without bond. 

Police said there is no further information to release at this time.
