Woman Killed by Train in Abilene

ABILENE, TX — A 26-year-old woman was killed after she was hit by a train Thursday in Abilene.

This is believed to be the fifth incident since 2022 and the second this year involving a pedestrian being killed by a train in Abilene. In addition, a 51-year-old woman was hit by a train last month in the city, though she survived.

Thursday’s incident occurred just before 6 p.m. in the 3400 block of South First Street. The woman was reportedly walking on the tracks with a man when she was struck.

The train’s conductor called dispatch to report that the train had hit an individual, according to a press release.

The woman’s identity wasn’t released as authorities were attempting to notify her next of kin. The incident remains under investigation.
