LYNN COUNTY, TX — A 17-year-old girl from O'Donnell was killed and four others were injured Saturday night in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 380 in Lynn County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred at 9:51 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 380 and County Road HH.
According to a preliminary DPS investigation, a 2018 Nissan Rogue driven by 44-year-old Gilberto Torres of Lubbock was traveling east on U.S. 380 when it crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a westbound 2020 Ford Escape.
Torres, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock with injuries.
The driver of the Ford Escape, 18-year-old Byrlee Renteria of O'Donnell, also was wearing a seat belt and was taken to University Medical Center with injuries.
A 17-year-old female passenger from O'Donnell was pronounced dead at the scene. DPS said it is unknown whether she was wearing a seat belt.
Two additional passengers in the Ford Escape, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl, both from Lamesa, were transported to University Medical Center with injuries. Their seat belt use is unknown.
The crash occurred under clear weather and dry road conditions. The speed limit on that stretch of highway is 75 mph.
The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
