GARZA COUNTY, TX — A 77-year-old Willow Park man was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 84 in Garza County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash occurred around 7:26 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 and Farm-to-Market Road 211.
DPS identified the victim as Richard Baack, 77, of Willow Park. Authorities said Baack, who was driving a 2003 Dodge pickup, was wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a preliminary DPS investigation, Baack's pickup and a 2025 Western Star truck-tractor pulling a semitrailer were both traveling northwest on U.S. 84. Investigators said the semi-truck was traveling in the left lane while the pickup was in the right lane.
For reasons that remain under investigation, the pickup drifted into the left lane, causing the semi-truck to strike the driver's side of the pickup, DPS said.
Both vehicles then traveled into the center median and collided with a cable barrier.
The driver of the semi-truck, Jorge Hernandez-Alamilla, 32, of Energy, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured, according to DPS.
The crash remains under investigation.
