Man Killed in Jones County Motorcycle Crash

JONES COUNTY, TX — A 22-year-old motorcyclist from Maryland was killed Monday evening when his motorcycle rear-ended a truck towing a dump trailer on State Highway 6 in Jones County, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported.

Mason Alkire of Barton, Maryland, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Cheryl Guemsey after the 7:30 p.m. crash south of Farm-to-Market Road 704, a preliminary DPS report states. He was driving a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle northbound.

The preliminary investigation determined that Alkire was traveling at an excessive rate of speed while overtaking another vehicle. After returning to the northbound lane, he failed to control his speed and collided with the rear of a 2022 Ford 350 truck towing a 2025 Big Tex dump semi-trailer, the report stated.

The truck was driven by Jeremy Harris, 42, of Stamford, Texas, who was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured. There were no other injuries reported in the two-vehicle crash.

Weather conditions were clear and the road was dry. The posted speed limit in the area was 75 mph. Alkire was wearing a helmet.
