San Angelo Man Killed in Rear-End Crash on U.S. 87 in Tom Green County

SAN ANGELO, TX — A 52-year-old San Angelo man was killed and another driver was injured when the SUV he was driving rear-ended another vehicle Wednesday evening on U.S. 87 near Fairview School Road, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported.

Jason Richard Ward, 52, of San Angelo, was pronounced deceased at the scene by JP Harris. He was not wearing a seat belt. The driver of the vehicle that was struck, Dustin Ray Dove, 34, also of San Angelo, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Shannon Medical Center. He was wearing a seat belt.

Both 2017 model SUVs — a GMC Terrain driven by Dove and a Chevrolet Trax driven by Ward — were traveling northbound on U.S. 87 when the crash occurred at about 7:50 p.m., according to a preliminary DPS investigation. Ward’s vehicle failed to control its speed and struck Dove’s vehicle from behind.

Weather conditions were clear, and the road surface was dry.
