SAN ANGELO, TX — A failure to yield at a stop sign led to a fatal two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening at U.S. 277 and Reece Road, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS identified the deceased driver as Jose V. Gallegos, 76, of San Angelo. Gallegos, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Judge Thomas Daniel.
The crash happened at 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 9. Investigators said Gallegos was traveling west on Reece Road and failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign. His 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer was struck by a southbound 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander on U.S. 277.
The driver of the second vehicle, a 27-year-old from Christoval, was taken to Shannon Medical Center with minor injuries. DPS did not list any contributing factors beyond the failure to yield.
Weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry.
