SAN ANGELO, TX — June 24, 2026 — The United Way of the Concho Valley has separated from its President and CEO, Ashley Ammons, following allegations of misuse of organizational resources.
While the organization did not publicly name the individual or provide specific details in its statement, sources with knowledge of the matter identified Ammons as the former employee involved.
Ammons had served as President and CEO of United Way of the Concho Valley since August 2019. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Texas Tech University’s Rawls College of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Texas Tech University. Prior to that role, she served in leadership positions at the Lubbock Area United Way, including Vice President of Community Impact and Division Director. Her earlier career included work with the Texas Health and Human Services Commission managing eligibility for programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF.
According to a source, Ammons allegedly used the charity’s general fund and bank account to pay for personal expenses, including trips and car payments. The source believes the total amount taken over the past five years or so may exceed $100,000.
The matter was identified through internal processes. The organization acted immediately to protect its operations and donor funds, separated Ammons from the organization, and reported the case to law enforcement. United Way of the Concho Valley said it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Todd Smith, Chair of the UWCV Board of Directors, said the Board moved quickly once concerns were raised.
“Because this is an active matter with legal and personnel considerations, additional details are limited at this time,” the organization stated in a news release.
It is important to note that Ammons has not been charged with any crime. Under the U.S. justice system, she is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty in a court of law. Law enforcement is in the early stages of its investigation, and no criminal charges have been filed as of today.
