Celebration of life services will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel. Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Lu Worsham was born February 19, 1944, in San Angelo, Texas. He attended schools in the Lake View Independent School District, and he graduated from Lake View High School in 1962. He entered the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M University in College Station, where he proudly played in the Fighting Aggie Band. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education on August 23, 1968, and later took graduate courses at the University of Texas in Austin.
Lu joined the U.S. Army in October 1970 as a First Lieutenant with the III Corps of Engineers, 1st Cavalry Division. During his career, he served at Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Mainz, Germany; Pineville, Louisiana (where he earned a Master's Degree); and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. While stationed in Hawaii, he deployed to Enewetak Atoll in the Marshall Islands. He also completed Advanced Jungle Training in Panama.
Lu retired from active duty in October 1990 after 20 years of service and returned to San Angelo with his family, where he planned to teach elementary school and tutor students through the school district. During this time he was also Vice President of Direct Broadcast Systems, a forerunner of today's WiFi. After a year in San Angelo, the family moved to the Dallas area where he was Manager of the Circuit City store in Lewisville, Texas, before taking over a new Circuit City store in Lufkin, Texas.
In 2000 Lu retired and moved back to San Angelo and in 2006 he met his future wife, Lesley. He often joked that their first date must have been a bad one, as the following day Lesley left for two weeks in Europe! However, after 20 years together, he was obviously wrong! They were active in the San Angelo Blues Society, where Lu was a former President, they enjoyed country and western dancing, cruises to the Caribbean sponsored by the Old Hat Band, a fantastic cruise and land tour to Alaska with the Texas10 (a wonderful group of 10 friends from Texas), visiting various ranches with their family and friends, RVing, traveling to Terlingua in November for the chili cookoff, and visiting their children and grandchildren. Most of all Lu loved fishing, a love he passed on to his grandsons.
Lu is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Doyle Worsham; his mother, Mabel Elizabeth (Bigby) Worsham, and his first wife, Karen Ann (Buesing) Worsham; and her parents, Tommy Irving Buesing and Francis Ann Buesing.
Lu is survived by his wife, Lesley Margaret Worsham; his son, Travis Lee Worsham and wife Carly and their daughter Maggie; his son, Scott J Worsham; his stepsons, Andrew Thomas Hughes and wife Jennifer, and their children, Ryan and Courtney; Christopher John Hughes and his wife Jessica and their children, Alyssa and Alex; and Michael James Hughes. He is also survived by many cousins and extended family members.
Lu firmly believed in the model of family first, and of course - Once an Aggie, always an Aggie!
