William Lee McGinnis Sr., 95, known lovingly as Bill, Papa, and Jack, was born on January 18, 1931, in Houston, Texas, and grew up in San Marcos, Texas. In 1956, he married Bessie Mae Click, and they shared 45 wonderful years together until her passing. They were blessed with three children: Sherrie, Sandy, and Billy. Bill cherished time with his family and especially enjoyed playing his guitar at family gatherings. He also loved baseball and bowling. More than anything, Bill was a man who loved his family with his whole heart. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for those he loved. His granddaughters lovingly remark on how steady and consistent he was in their lives — someone they could always depend on. He was a God-loving and God-fearing man who carried his faith with quiet strength. He took great pride in his children and his great-grandchildren, each one a special blessing to him. At just 16 years old, Bill joined the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for 20 years. During his service, he worked as a firefighter and was stationed at Dyess AFB, Big Spring AFB, and Goodfellow AFB. After retiring from the Air Force, he continued to serve his community through his work at Pool C, Simpson Motor Co., Hirschfeld Steel, and Ron Anderson’s Mowing Service. Later in life, Bill married Martha Brooks and was blessed to gain two more children, Becky Brooks and Jay Brooks, further expanding the family he loved so deeply. Bill is survived by his five children, numerous grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his unwavering love, steady presence, strong work ethic, deep faith, and the joy he brought to family gatherings with his music and laughter. His legacy of love and devotion will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
Graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 5th at 10:00am at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
